The combination of "Sodium Fluoride and EDTA K2" is an important technical upgrade in the current protocol for blood glucose tube additives. Sodium Fluoride: Sodium fluoride is a traditional glycostatic agent, working to inhibit a key enzyme in the glycolysis pathway-enolase. However, sodium fluoride acts more slowly and usually takes 1-4 hours to fully inhibit glycolysis.

EDTA K2: In this combination, the primary task of EDTA is rapid anticoagulation. It chelates calcium ions in the blood, preventing the coagulation cascade and keeping the blood liquid. At the same time, EDTA is also a stable cell preservative, providing high-quality samples for subsequent centrifugation and testing.

Immediate and long-lasting blood glucose stabilization: The key advantage is that the improved formula containing EDTA and citrate can immediately inhibit glycolysis after blood collection and maintain blood glucose stability for at least 4 hours, or even up to 24 hours. This avoids the falsely low blood glucose results caused by delayed glycemic suppression in the early stages of blood collection (the first 1-2 hours) of traditional sodium fluoride catheters.

Reliable anticoagulant effect ensures sample quality: EDTA is the standard anticoagulant recommended by the International Committee for Hematology Standardization (ICSH) in hematology testing. Its anticoagulant effect is stable and reliable, effectively preventing the formation of small clots, which is crucial for automated instrument testing. At the same time, since potassium oxalate is no longer needed, it also avoids the risk of hemolysis that may arise from potassium oxalate.

Blood glucose measurement: This is the most standard and core use of the gray cap tube. Because it can stabilize blood sugar for a long time, it is especially suitable for samples that cannot be tested immediately or require batch testing, effectively preventing low blood glucose results caused by glycolysis.

Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (OGTT): In the diagnosis of diabetes and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), the gray-capped tube is the standard blood collection tube option. This test requires blood collection at multiple precise time points after sugar ingestion. The stability of the gray cap tube ensures that blood glucose levels at each time point accurately reflect the state at the moment of blood collection during unified testing.
