Yellow Cap Gel&Clot Activator Tube

Yellow cap gel&clot activator tube contains two pre-contained components: inert separation gel and coagulant inside. It is positioned as the main tube type for routine serological testing, especially suitable for biochemical and immunological projects that require rapid results and want specimens to remain stable after centrifugation and facilitate batch testing. It is essentially an "upgraded version" of red cap pro-coagulation tube: on top of the coagulation accelerator, it adds the physical barrier of separation gel.

Its core advantage comes from the synergistic effect of two additives:

Coagulants sprayed on the tube wall can quickly activate the coagulation mechanism, allowing blood to clot in a short time and significantly shortening pre-test turnover time.

Separation gel is a thixotropic inert polymer colloid, with a density between that of serum (about 1.02) and blood cell (about 1.08). During centrifugation, it liquefies under centrifugal force and moves to the center of the tube, where it stops centrifuging and solidifies again, forming a physical barrier between the serum and blood cells. This barrier effectively prevents potassium, lactate dehydrogenase, and other components in blood cells from spreading into the serum, ensuring the specimen remains stable for 48 hours.

Routine biochemistry: liver function, kidney function, electrolytes, blood glucose, myocardial enzyme profile, etc.

Immunological testing: thyroid function, tumor markers, serum immunology, drug concentration monitoring, etc.

Emergency serum biochemistry: The speed advantage brought by coagulants makes them equally suitable for emergency settings.

Coagulants: Their mechanism of action is to artificially activate the coagulation cascade, accelerating the formation of fibrin polymers. Similar to the orange-red cap tube, it does not change the chemical composition of the serum, only compressing the coagulation time.

Separation gel: composed of hydrophobic organic compounds and silica powder, with thixotropy-it becomes thinner and flows under mechanical force (centrifugal), and returns to gel state after the force is lost. It is precisely this property that allows it to remain between serum and blood cells after centrifugation, forming a stable barrier.
